Great article on Kathy Ryan and the NYT mag photo team!
Outtake for Boomerang Kids project. I photographed Michael and his daughter Daisy (8 years old) in his parents house in Victorville, CA. This was one of the shoots I did on my own before pitching the story to the Times. This shot didn’t make it into the feature because Michael’s story was a bit more complicated beyond the factors of student loans and the economy; he is a single father who lives at home with his parents.
I was included in the homie Damon Casarez’s photo essay for the New York Times Magazine, “Hi Mom, I’m Home!” It’s about young people who move back home with their parents as they struggle to manage financially.
I know it is probably a waste of time to address some comments I have read…
The homie Lila Ash! I photographed her for the Boomerang Kids project. She’s a great cartoonist, check out her work. Had such a good time photographing her in Washington Heights, NYC for this project. Thankful she let me tell her story.
Wooohoooo. Have a nice interview on A Photo Editor about my experience and story behind the boomerang kids project for the New York Times. COOL!
Hi Everyone! Umm. I have the cover story of the NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE today! This was a personal project I pitched to @amykellner a few months back. It grew from a photo essay to a full feature to the cover story. It has over 1500 comments and growing on the website and has generated a lot of discussion about student loans and the millennial generation. Thank you @amykellner @kathyryan1 and @handheldproductions for this amazing experience! (at Diamond Bar, CA)
I had an amazing project come out today for the New York Times Magazine! I began this personal project around 3 months ago and pitched it to the NYTM after making 3 photos for the project when it was picked up. I got to travel around the country to 8 states and 14 cities for the project. I was an amazing experience and couldn’t be happier that it was for my dream client. I got to work with some amazing photo editors: Amy Kellner, Kathy Ryan and Christine Walsh for the piece. It went live online this morning and will come out in print on Sunday! It began as a photo essay with deep captions and quickly grew to be the cover story. See all the photos online with the article written by Adam Davidson of NPR and interviews by Taffy Brodesser-Akner as well as audio interviews with a few of the people.
